Silay City is considered as Paradise Philippines due to its picturesque scenery and environment. Its Spanish ancestral houses and mountain resort were a must see destinations if you happen to pass by this idyllic city in the middle of sugarcane fields.
The Balay Negrense is one of the famous ancestral houses that can be visited and will bring you back to the time when sugar industry was most vibrant and in its heyday. The wonderful and exquisite furniture’s, the clothing and even old books originally in Spanish language will amaze you. Going to their kitchen area you will also be delighted by the dainty china and porcelain wares they were using. The cooking utensils and other equipment’s, one couldn’t help but think of the time in the past, that they had been using it too. One thing that caught my eyes was the measurement commonly known as “ganta” – a five kilo measurement for any commodities traded or bought before. It is used mainly by farmers and traders, in a way; it speaks of once important commodity in the life of our forebears.
Going to this place, is like being transported for the time being into another era – a place where time stand still for a while.
